The Story Behind Dash-Board Jesus

Every old pickup seems to have a story, and a lot of them have a little dashboard Jesus riding along for the miles. I wrote “Dashboard Jesus” because I started thinking about the people who don’t have life all figured out. They’re not perfect. They make mistakes, get knocked down, and sometimes wonder if anyone is listening. Yet they still keep a small reminder of faith close by, hoping for a little guidance on the next stretch of road.

The song isn’t about pretending to be religious or having all the answers. It’s about grace. It’s about those quiet moments behind the wheel when you’re alone with your thoughts, talking to God in a way nobody else hears. Sometimes that’s where the most honest prayers happen.

As an independent country songwriter, I try to write original country music that tells real stories about everyday people. “Dashboard Jesus” blends traditional country influences with modern outlaw country, reminding us that faith often rides alongside brokenness. Whether you’re driving back roads in California or highways across America, that little figure on the dashboard can represent hope, forgiveness, and the belief that tomorrow can be better than today.

I hope this song speaks to anyone who’s ever needed a second chance, a little mercy, or simply someone to ride with them through life’s rough roads.
